2006 Concert Reviews

Macquarie "Music on Winter Sundays", 20 August 2006
Guest Artists - Warren Fisher, Karen Fisher, Ben Fisher

Choir Soloist - Daniel Younan

Conductor - Paul Whiting

Accompanist - Grace Edwards-Barnetson

The choir was pleased to be able to return to Macquarie University as part of the University's annual "Music on Winter Sundays" programme. A beautiful winter afternoon saw the choir performing five brackets of songs including You'll Never Walk Alone, Goin' Home, Unchained Melody and Pilgrim's Chorus.

Our special guest artists for this concert were the the gifted Fisher family. Both Warren and Karen Fisher are accomplished performers and they entertained the audience with both solo pieces and a bracket of duets. Warren Fisher was also accompanied by Ben Fisher, his young son, in Drink to me only with Thine Eyes.

The recently formed KMC Chamber Choir, a subset of the full Ku-ring-gai Male Choir, performed Serenade by Franz Schubert. The soloist during this piece was Daniel Younan, one of the choir's fine tenors.

Grace Edwards-Barnetson accompanied the choir and all solo artists throughout the afternoon.

60th Anniversary Concert, 30 June 2006

Guest Artists - Andrea Catzel, Wendy Dalton

Conductor - Paul Whiting

Accompanist - Grace Edwards-Barnetson

The choir celebrates its sixtieth anniversary this year, and as part of the celebrations organised an anniversary concert in aid of SPELD NSW, a charity for children with Specific Learning Difficulties.

The venue for the concert was the wonderful Centenary Centre at Ravenswood School for Girls. The choir performed many favourite numbers including Danny Boy, Speed your Journey, Ol' Man River and Pilgrim's Chorus and accompanied Wendy Dalton on several numbers. The choir was also privileged to have the services of Andrea Catzel, an internationally acclaimed soprano, who performed two solo brackets. Grace Edwards-Barnetson again accompanied the choir and soloists throughout the evening as well as performing Schubert's Piano Prelude: Impromptu op. 90 no.3.

Hornsby RSL Club - A Tribute to ANZAC, 22 April 2006

Guest Artists - Vivienne Powell, Kenneth Plant, Wendy Dalton

Conductor - Paul Whiting

Accompanist - Grace Edwards-Barnetson

As the Ku-ring-gai Male Choir was founded by ex-servicemen in 1946, it was with great pleasure that we were able to take part in the ANZAC remembrance activities for 2006 with "A Tribute to ANZAC" concert.

The audience was entertained by many familiar songs, including "When The Saints Go Marching In", "Seventy-six Trombones", "Waltzing Matilda" and "I Still Call Australia Home". The concert concluded with a bracket of songs of peace, a fitting tribute to those who gave their lives in service.

The choir was also joined by Vivienne Powell and Kenneth Plant, both well-known and highly respected Australian musicians, who performed several numbers for the audience as well as a number of duets. The choir was also supported by Wendy Dalton who has been an associate artist with the choir for over twenty years, and Grace Edwards-Barnetson who accompanied not only the choir but all of the guest artists throughout the evening.

The choir would also like to acknowledge the support of Jerome Crosdale and Hornsby RSL in enabling this concert to be a great success.
